Louise Mercer Bernard, born October 20, 1918 (age 93), died in her home, Saturday, November 26, 2011, in Kennett Square. She was the wife of the late F. Merritt Bernard who died in 1997 and with whom she shared 55 years of marriage. Born in Kennett, she was a daughter of the late Joel S. and Maud Freck Mercer. Louise spent her whole life in Kennett Square where she married, raised her children and often served her community. When asked about how do you remember her it is often said, “She was always cheerful and happy.” “Did you ever know her any other way?” She loved and was proud of all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that lived in West Chester and Downingtown, Pennsylvania and Austin, Texas. Her family called her Muzzie endearingly and her smile and warm loving kindness will be missed. She was a graduate of Kennett High School and Beacom College. She is survived by her sisters, Nancy M. Fraim (Santa Rosa, Calif.), Barbara M. Sparrow (Miami, Fla.), son Franklin Merritt Bernard (Austin, Texas), grandchildren, Nicole Louise Bernard, Amy Mercer Roberts Patroni and Henry (Ricky) Roberts and great-grandchildren, Grace Patroni, Brett Patroni, Kendal Roberts and Cassidy Roberts. She was predeceased by her daughter Anne B. Roberts and a sister Josephine M. Tattersall. Graveside services will be held privately at Union Hill Cemetery in Kennett Square where she will be buried next to her husband. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Anne B.
